C.E.P. National Convention 2006
In 1992 the CPU (Canadian Paperworkers Union), CWC (Communication Workers of Canada) and ECWU (Energy, Chemical Workers Union) merged to form the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union (CEP). CEP will be holding our 8th bi-annual National convention this year in Vancouver on October 14th - 19th. The convention location rotates between the four regions, with the last one being in Quebec. The purpose of the convention is to decide policy and to elect the National Executive Board. Policy is decided by debating and then voting on resolutions that are submitted by Local unions. This year Local 601-N submitted two resolutions on the suggestion of Brother Scribner. Invited guest speakers to this convention include; Walden Bello, Trade Justice for Workers from Canada to the Global South; Maude Barlow, Challenge of Deep Integration and the Harper Government; Ken Georgetti, President of the Canadian Labour Congress; Jim Sinclair, President of B.C. Federation of Labour; Damien Contandriopoulos, Challenge to Canada's Public Medicare System. Three of our convention delegates will be playing active roles in the convention process; Brother Wyers will be sitting on the Resolutions Committee, Sister Dunn will be sitting at the head table with the Executive Board, and Brother Alexander will be sitting on the Committee Representing Young Workers.
